Flea and Heartworm prevention is an essential component of your pet's health care. At Bethel Animal Health we strive to offer the best and most effective products around, while at the same time keeping the costs low to our clients.
Fleas are usually a problem from the Spring through the Fall (unless they have gotten a foothold in your house or yard - which means a year round problem). Symptoms of fleas are:scratching and chewing at their fur, losing their fur, small scabs throughout their body, anemia (caused by blood loss associated with a severe infestation) and tape worms.
Trifexis- (Canine Oral Tablet) a monthly beef flavored tablet that protects your pet against fleas, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. This tablet should be given with a full meal (to minimize vomiting) and begins working within thirty minutes. The products spreads throughout your pet's blood stream and whenever a flea bites your pet the flea will ingest the product and die. The advantage to this system is that there is no residue on your pet's skin, so you don't have to be worried about bathing your dog (topicals would wash off), sleeping with your dog, or residue transfering to your hands while petting. We recommend Trifexis for dogs who are outside, or who enjoy swimming. Because this product protects against heartworms, before starting on the protection your pets needs to have their blood tested for heartworms at a cost of $25.00. You can call and schedule a heartworm test with our technician throughout the week.
Comfortis (Feline Oral Tablet) is a monthly beef flavored tablet from the same company as Trifexis. This tablet is for our clients who need the flea control. Within thirty minutes of ingesting the tablet with a meal, the products spreads through your pet's blood stream. Whenever a flea bites your pet they will ingest the product and die. The advantage to this system is that there is no residue on your pet's skin. This product can also be used for dogs, but we prefer the dogs be on Simparica so that they can get the added Tick protection benefits.
Simparica (Canine Oral Tablet) - this is a monthly chewy tablet for the treatment of fleas and ticks. The pet needs to be at least 6 months old and have a current accurate weight before going on this product. It works through the blood stream and does a great job killing fleas and ticks.

Advantage Multi (Feline topical) This is a once a month medication that protects your cat from fleas, ear mites, heartworms, roundworms, and hookworms. A very good all purpose protection. Our Vet Technician Hope uses this product on her personal cats, and we use it here at the office on our clinic cat Sadie to keep her protected.
Activyl (Feline Topical) This product targets fleas and their larva. One dose lasts, on average, 4-6 weeks. Like a normal topical it kills fleas on contact. However, what makes this product special is how it targets the flea larva. The product will actually bind to your cat's dander. Which means that the preventative is spread throughout your home, or property naturally wherever you pet likes to hangout. Such as bedding, underneath porches etc. This is essential to breaking the flea's life cycle, and makes for happier pet!
Activyl Tick Plus (Canine Topical) This is the same as the cat's Activyl, however this also protects against ticks as well as the fleas. One dose lasts, on average, 6 weeks.
